Sir Veza’s Taco Garage

Sir Veza’s Taco Garage.  New location in close proximity to Tucson Mall.

C- or 2 out of five stars

Sir Veza’s is getting a lot of things correct. Cold beer!  Lots of staff who are ready, willing and able to take care of you. The new decor blends Tucson chic with a  down and dirty hotrod/motorcycle theme in a combination of outdoor indoor space, and it is awesome!  I mean what’s not to love about comfortable outdoor spaces with couches and a mile of bar top.  Sadly, it’s the food.  Well, again and again at both locations, it is just plain bland.  It looks good and has the potential to be great but one bite and you will quickly be looking for something to put on it to make it better. From the beans to the tortilla’s and everything in between, Sir Veza’s, in this reviewer’s opinion needs to go back to the drawing board.  I mean Bland to the point that is appears that someone is forcing the cooks to not use salt or pepper, and to cook everything until it is done, and then by god,  cook it a little more.

We went twice, the first time just had a few beers and some taquitos, which later were baptized the “blah-quitos”.   The second time, I tried Sir Vezas’  “Garage style” trio, with Pork, Beef, and Chicken tacos.   Overcooked, plain, overwhelmed with the flavor of green peppers.   Again.  I say again because the concept of Sir Veza’s is so cool that we keep trying them again and again, on both sides of town.  We love to take the Victory out for an afternoon spin and Sir Veza’s is made for cruising too.  So we go out and we stop in for a beer and a taco.  But once again, the food is so poorly conceived that I’m going to have to say it out loud. What the hell Sir Vezas? Can you not taste your own food?

Again, as a bar and space where you can sit in both outside and indoor spaces,  it’s a very cool place to stop in for a beer and to plop down and relax. If you are hungry, plan to eat before or after at another restaurant.  Or..make sure you order salt and pepper shakers with your meal (we’ll call it a “bland aid”). We’ve tried multiple items.  It’s a huge menu with many choices and perhaps we haven’t gotten to “the good thing” but they do call themselves a taco garage and so we judge them on their signature theme.

c- Overall 2 because cool cannot make up for not so great food.
